Internal air quality Monitoring
Simple install and monitoring
In the UK, Companies have a legal obligation to ensure that workplaces have efficient ventilation and availability of fresh or purified air for their workforce.
Think Air Internal Monitors are low cost IOT sensors that need no professional assistance to install, making them perfect for all areas for staff, visitors or tenants including:
- Care Homes
- Restaurants & Pubs
- Call Centres
- Shopping Centres
The Think Air Internal Monitor measures CO2 (ppm) , Light (Lux), Temperature (°C) and Humidity (Rh).
Why care about air?
Poor internal air quality – like the air we breathe inside workplaces, schools, office buildings, hospitals, care homes, and other indoor recreation venues – is linked to an increasing number of health problems.
The health impacts of poor internal air quality range from headaches, poor concentration, and decreased mental performance to respiratory problems, sleep issues, and a decline in overall wellbeing.
What’s more – because we can’t really ‘see’ the problem, we tend to ignore it.
But the issue is real – and its impact on our everyday wellbeing and performance is alarming.
CO2 is produced when people breathe. Each exhaled breath by an average adult contains 35,000 to 50,000 parts per million (ppm) of CO2 – 100 times higher than is typically found in the outside air (OSA).
The CO2 concentration in an occupied indoor space indicates if the building’s air exchange balance is appropriate – that is, if the optimal amount of OSA is being mixed with air that has been circulating in the building
What's in the Kit?
The Think Air Internal Monitor is an IOT Sensor that uses LoRaWAN (low bandwidth, long range) to communicate through a local Gateway, which is included to the Think Air cloud platform.
This system is completely independent from your local IT systems and only the Gateway requires power. In fact it looks just like a big plug!
No security issues, just plug it in and go!
The Think Air Internal Monitors do not require local power. These amazing little devices have a battery that will last up to 2 years!
Just place on a desk, or stick to a wall in the area you wish to measure and that's it. The data will be sent out via the gateway and you can access it via the online Think Air Portal.
Each Gateway supports 100's of sensors so your monitoring can grow along with your business with a single Gateway covering an average size 3 story business with 20+ offices.
The Business Benefits of Measuring CO2
Many corporate wellness programmes focus on biometric screening, diet, and exercise to improve employee health and productivity. But new research has shown the quality of the office environment itself can have significant negative effects on thinking, health, and productivity.
A recent study by teams from Harvard and Syracuse Universities found that employees working in a green working environment increased cognitive performance by more than 100%.
Better indoor air quality has also been linked to improved staff wellbeing. A further study found that employees working in green office environments had 30% fewer headaches and respiratory complaints, and experienced better sleep quality than their counterparts.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is also an important part of business strategy, and adopting a healthier working environment helps organisations to offer a healthier and more caring environment for their staff.
Monitoring indoor CO2 levels also leads to significant energy (and cost) savings by maintaining optimum ventilation during hot or cold weather conditions.
Current ventilation guidelines, such as those from the Society of Heating Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, recommend that indoor CO2 levels not exceed the local outdoor concentration by more than about 650 ppm. Good practice indicates that the ASHRAE Standard 62.1 target CO2 level in indoor air is about 1,030 ppm given the outside average of 380 ppm. It is important to adhere to these guidelines.
The performance of individuals in schools and offices with elevated CO2 concentrations can be affected because occupants may become lethargic and drowsy. Additionally, as CO2 builds up, so do other indoor air contaminants, which increases occupants’ exposures to irritating, distracting and potentially unhealthy gases and particulates
More than CO2?
By installing the Think Air Gateway in your building you are doing more than providing a connection just for the Think Air Internal Monitors.
The same gateway can be used to pick up data from any LoRaWAN IOT sensors in range.
Think Air and Vindico's in house development team can provide bespoke communication channels for BMS System Integration in line with your ventilation strategy.
Similar to "The Things" network ,but locked down to authorised devices only, this installation could be your stepping stone in to the new world of low cost sensors and automation.

How does Think Air measure externally?
The Think Air External node is a low cost Air quality node capable of LoRaWAN, 3G, Wired or WiFi connectivity, equipped with a Multi-sensor modular unit that can integrate into existing Think AIr networks.
The node offers extremely accurate PM10, PM2.5, CO1, NO2, C2H6OH, H21, NH31, CH4, C3H8, C4H10, temperature and humidity readings confined within a small solar powered unit.
The unit is assessed along side AURN monitoring networks to ensure the values displayed have correlation that parallels that of the current government reporting network.
